Second-grader Mary Peyton Mullin from Houston Academy was awarded the top prize in Wiregrass Electric Cooperative’s annual Christmas Card Drawing Contest.

Nicholas Page, a fifth grade student at Emmanuel Christian School in Dothan, received second place and Maggie Nemish, a fourth grade student at Providence Christian School in Dothan, won third. (Their pictures are below.) Nicholas’ mother is Jennifer Conner, and Maggie’s parents are Terry and Rhonda Nemish.
Students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade from the Wiregrass area were asked to submit an original Christmas drawing. Mary Peyton’s drawing featured colorful ornaments with a Christmas tree and presents. The cooperative received over 200 entries in the contest from 12 schools in the area, and the contest was judged by WEC board members and employees.
A winner was also named from each school represented.
Those winners were: Taylor Revels, Mulkey Elementary (Geneva); Sara Rousseau, Geneva Co. Elementary (Hartford); Mark Watson, Samson Baptist Academy; Vada Turner, Kinston Elementary; Tyler Smith, Cottonwood School; Conner Smith, Rehobeth Elementary’; Darian Bell, Ashford Elementary; Anna Johnston, Ashford Academy; and Luke Goodson, College Street Elementary (Enterprise).
“Our employees always enjoy judging this contest, now in its fourth year,” said Cary Hatcher, Manager of Member Relations. “They didn’t know the identity of any of the artists until judging concluded. Wiregrass Electric congratulates each of the students who submitted a drawing; they were all outstanding.”
Each student that submitted an entry received a gift, and the winners received a gift card and gift package. The winners’ drawings can be viewed on WEC’s website .
