Wiregrass Electric Cooperative, in collaboration with PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, presents Green Power Choice, a community solar program that allows members to easily include solar power in their energy mix.

How It Works
The program operates based on your average monthly electric use. For instance, if you average 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month, a minimum subscription level provides you with 333 kWh of solar power. You are billed at your regular rate, with a $4 premium for the solar energy component.
If you want to increase your solar power allotment, you can do so in increments of $4. Each $4 increment adds another 333 kWh to your solar power allotment for the month. This model allows members to customize their solar energy shares according to their preferences and needs.
We begin billing for the program in October with a minimum one-year commitment to join. After that, members can cancel anytime.
Where Does This Solar Energy Come From?
WEC’s solar garden — situated near our Hartford office — consists of 324 solar cells capable of generating up to 220,970 kWh annually. But our program isn’t limited to local production. In partnership with PowerSouth, whose utility-scale solar farms are currently generating 80 megawatts of power, we are dedicated to fostering a reliable power grid. The community solar model allows us to provide a consistent monthly solar output for subscribers, even with the intermittent nature of solar energy generation.
