Historically, peak demand for Wiregrass Electric Cooperative (WEC) occurs on the coldest winter day.
We want to help our members steer clear of the peak, and these 3 basic tips can go a long way:
How much electricity members use during peak times determines how much they will pay on their monthly demand rate, which will increase from $2.50 per kW to $4 per kW in March.
Reduce usage between 6 through 9 a.m. through February, especially if you receive a peak demand alert. Heating homes, cooking, and using other high-energy-demand appliances such as water heater, clothes dryer, and dishwasher can spike demand and potentially raise cost for everybody. If you must use any of these appliances during this timeframe, don’t use them simultaneously so that you avoid setting a high peak for your account.
Our mobile app can help members evaluate their energy habits.
We will send peak demand alerts via text, email, social media, and automated phone calls. Make sure your account information is up to date on our website.
