Did you know that Wiregrass Electric Cooperative (WEC) currently possesses hundreds of checks that were returned to us after the latest disbursement of capital credits? Did you know we have an easy way to see if one of them is yours?
Since our cooperative is a nonprofit organization, any time it takes in more money than it expends in a given year, we book the margins as capital credits. These credits are eventually returned to members once the board of trustees feels it is financially feasible to do so.
In 2020, WEC retired the capital credits that members earned in 1998. Those who are no longer members were mailed checks to the addresses on record, but many checks were returned to us.
