Peak hurricane season is upon us—be prepared

August and September are the peak months of the Atlantic hurricane season, when storms are historically stronger.

Wiregrass Electric Cooperative is ready to respond, and we want members to be prepared. Take some time to consider your plans should a hurricane turn our way.

• Plan with your family and friends. Establish how you’ll communicate before, during and after a storm.
• Assemble a disaster kit with nonperishable food, water, batteries, flashlights, prescription medicines, first-aid kit, phone chargers, battery-powered radio and other items you and your family may need in an emergency. Include important documents, like property deeds and birth certificates, or store those items in a safe place away from your home, like a bank safe-deposit box.
• Have some extra cash on hand. Power outages mean ATMs and electric card readers won’t work. Also, keep your vehicles filled with gas.
