Each year, Wiregrass Electric Cooperative (WEC) sends local students on a journey designed to teach them about their cooperative, their state, and themselves.
WEC will select 10 high school juniors to attend the 2025 Montgomery Youth Tour this spring. The cooperative will then choose two of those students to visit the nation’s capital in June.
Applications are currently being accepted and can be found online.
The deadline to apply is January 10. Applicants must be dependents of WEC members.
Sponsored by local electric cooperatives across the state, as well as the Alabama Rural Electric Association and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, the annual tours include visits to historic sites and with legislators and a chance to meet students from all around the state and country.
The 2025 Montgomery Youth Tour will be held March 11 through 13, while the National Youth Tour is scheduled for June 16 through 22.
Students selected for the Montgomery Youth Tour will receive a $1,000 scholarship from WEC. The two students chosen to travel to Washington, D.C., will receive an additional $500 scholarship each.
1 of the many ways Wiregrass Electric Cooperative shows its commitment to its communities is through scholarship opportunities for local high school students.
Each year, WEC awards a $1,000 scholarship through its Electric Cooperative Foundation to a high school senior who plans to pursue post-secondary, technical, or vocational education after graduation. To qualify, the applicant must be a dependent child of a WEC member.
Applications are submitted to the ECF office. The deadline to apply for the 2025 ECF scholarship is February 21.
Applications are available at any WEC office as well as from high school guidance counselors or online.
