Camp Wicksburg

RV Campground, Tiny Cabins Cater to Temporary Workers, Traveling Retirees

The RV area at Camp Wicksburg is the newest addition. There are 41 sites.

Camp Wicksburg provides its guests with extra amenities to make them feel at home. There is a fitness center, laundry facilities, a swimming pool, and a covered outdoor grill area.

Forrest and Liza Register’s family opened Camp Wicksburg to meet a demand for short-term and extended-stay campsites on the west side of Dothan.

“The atmosphere is clean and safe,” Forrest says. “A lot of these folks are coming into our area to work. They want to get up and go to work, come home, and be left alone. But they want something to do, and the exercise room so far has been the most popular.”

The second phase, which included the campground’s swimming pool, opened in November.

“I imagine as we roll into the warm months, the pool is going to be very popular,” Forrest says. “We’re also adding a pickleball court out there.”

A Comfortable Place To Rest

Cabins at Camp Wicksburg feature a den area with a loveseat and TV, dining area, kitchen, laundry area, bathroom and a bedroom. Among the amenities on-site are the outdoor grill and seating area next to the fenced pool.

When developing the campground, the owners wanted a clean, modern look for all the facilities, Liza says.

The gated campground, now in its second year, opened its first phase with 30 tiny cabins. The second phase included 41 sites for recreational vehicles and campers, along with the development’s swimming pool and main building, which houses the gym, laundry, and full bathrooms.

With its paved roads and concrete RV sites, Camp Wicksburg was developed in part with temporary workers in mind — travel nurses, contractors, and those working short-term at Fort Novosel. The campground also attracts those who like to travel by RV, as well as retirees who live and travel in their campers or recreational vehicles full time.

“We tried to tailor the amenities for a broad appeal to what different people may want.” — Forrest Register

“We tried to tailor the amenities for a broad appeal to what different people may want,” Forrest says. “The exercise room, the swimming pool, the pickleball court — in the RV park world, they’re all very popular amenities.”

The property is 22 acres, so there is still room to grow, according to the owners. The Register family also operates Dothan RV Park on the south side of Dothan.

“A lot of our clients were requesting to stay on the west side of town for various reasons — closer to work, closer to Fort Novosel,” Forrest says. “That’s really what drove us to start looking on the west side of Dothan.”

Attention to Detail

This storm shelter is located near the tiny cabins at Camp Wicksburg. Several shelters are located on-site so guests can have a safe place to go during severe weather.

Cabins are furnished with a small sofa, a television, and a dining table with chairs. Bedrooms feature a queen-sized bed, a dresser, and nightstands. Guests even receive a fresh set of sheets and bath linens. Kitchens are stocked with utensils, silverware, cookware, dishes, and a coffee maker.

“It’s got all the pots and pans and dishes and glasses and everything you need but food,” Liza says.

The cabins also have a stacked washer and dryer laundry unit. Outside each cabin is a covered deck with seating, a storage unit and a charcoal grill.

On the RV side, there are full hookups, free cable, and Wi-Fi access. RV guests have access to the bathrooms in the main building, which include walk-in showers. The laundry facilities feature a credit card swipe for payment.

Camp Wicksburg also has a fenced dog park and several storm shelters for guests to use during severe weather. The entire development is fenced with unique codes required to enter the main gate after hours. A campground manager even lives on site.

The Register family began working on Camp Wicksburg in 2022. The property was previously home to a small mobile home park, while another part had been used for large equipment storage.

The campground is 1 of several new commercial developments on U.S. 84 West between Dothan and Enterprise.

“We wanted a certain look, just a very upscale, clean, well-maintained look,” Forrest says.
