High school juniors looking for a unique learning opportunity while making new friends from across the state are encouraged to apply for the 2026 Montgomery Youth Tour.
Wiregrass Electric Cooperative (WEC) is accepting applications for the annual event, which will be held March 11 through March 13. 10 students will be selected to represent the cooperative in Montgomery.
The deadline to apply is January 9. Applicants must be high school juniors who are dependents of WEC members. Applications can be found on our website.
The 10 students chosen will each receive a $1,000 scholarship, and 2 will be selected to travel to Washington, D.C., in June for the 2026 Washington Youth Tour. Those 2 students will each receive an additional $500 scholarship.
Following the Montgomery Youth Tour, Wiregrass Electric Cooperative hosts a Youth Tour event at its main office in Hartford, complete with a roundtable discussion with local legislators.
Sponsored by local electric cooperatives across the state, as well as the Alabama Rural Electric Association and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, the annual tours include visits to historic sites, teaching delegates about their state’s and the nation’s history and the role electric cooperatives played in it.
Along with learning how their government works directly from lawmakers, students also participate in leadership and team-building activities and have the opportunity to make friends from all over.
