CEO’s Message – April 2024

Walking The Walk

Keeping the lights on is what drives our co-op, but we are rooted in so much more. At our core, the people and community are what matter most.

This belief shines through in the dedication of our lineworkers, who go above and beyond to help out members. Or, in the care taken by our professional member service representatives who address every member’s concern with courteous and knowledgeable help. That spirit is also evident in the generosity of members who donate to Operation Round Up and the volunteer board members who distribute these funds to vital charitable causes across our Wiregrass community.

This year, I am honored to be the honorary chair of the 2024 Wiregrass Kidney Walk on April 13 at Kiwanis Park. This is a chance for us to raise awareness about kidney disease and the dire need for accessible treatment and care. Dialysis transportation challenges can turn a critical routine into a life-threatening ordeal. By supporting the Alabama Kidney Foundation, we’re aiming to break down these barriers, offering hope and assistance where it’s desperately needed.

We know kidney disease is a condition that silently affects many in our Wiregrass community. It’s a battle no one should have to face alone. So we’re stepping up to do our part to help.

My commitment to help, to serve and to make even a small difference, is personal. I truly want to see our community grow and prosper. I am grateful to be a part of a community-minded organization that supports doing whatever we can to help offer hope to those who truly need it. Joining this mission is something you can be a part of, too. Whether offering support, a ride, a donation or walking with us, every gesture can make an important impact.

But our community commitment doesn’t end there. The Southeast World of Works East event is an opportunity for our co-op to support and empower our community through workforce development. It’s about sparking potential in our young people, giving them the skills to shine bright right here, without having to leave home to find success.

And I can’t talk about our cooperative spirit without tipping my hat to our dedicated and hardworking employees who keep us powered. Back in 2014, Alabama carved out a day just for lineworkers to recognize and honor the hard work and heart they put into keeping our members’ lives running smoothly. This reliability is not incidental — it’s the result of intentional, diligent effort by our lineworkers and employees who help our cooperative be the very best we can be.

As we approach the Kidney Walk, I extend an invitation to our community. Scan the QR code on this page to sign up to help nurture a healthy, thriving community.

We are here to serve, contribute, and improve the quality of life for our community. It’s a mission that I am proud to be a part of, both personally and professionally. Let’s continue to work together, support each other, and build a better future that offers hope and opportunity for everyone.

Together, I know we will continue to make a positive difference.
