



Each year on July 4, our country celebrates its independence. It’s been 250 years since the Founding Fathers ratified the words of the Declaration of Independence.
Two-and-a-half centuries ago, Thomas Jefferson holed up in a Philadelphia boarding house and penned the words that became one of our country’s most important historic documents, signed by representatives of the 13 original colonies as they took a stand against British rule under King George III.
The principles established in the Declaration of independence are as important today as they were in 1776. They are outlined in words that continue to inspire Americans — principles that have been defended repeatedly, sometimes at great cost to American citizens.
Take a moment to appreciate and consider these famous words in the preamble of this treasured document. They are a good reminder for all of us.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
