Demand 101

Winter is fast approaching, and as the seasons change, so does the way we use energy. Between 6-9 a.m. are the peak hours when members should be conscious about their home’s energy demand.

Don't Tower Your Power

Running multiple high-energy appliances during peak hours can spike your demand and inflate your bill. Plan ahead.

Level Your Load

If you must use high-energy appliances during these peak hours, try using them 1 at a time to keep your household’s electric demand as low as possible.

Demand is measured in kW, measuring the rate at which energy is used, and differs from kilowatt-hours, or kWh, which measure the total amount of energy consumed. Come March, Wiregrass Electric Cooperative will begin billing residential members who exceed 3 kW, or kilowatts, during our coincidental peak. This charge will be based on the member’s peak demand from precise meter data on that day.

Change can be challenging. But with a little planning, you can steer clear of extra costs. Visit the FAQ page to learn more about demand and its effect on our costs and yours.
