Education, Training, and Information

WEC COO Brad Kimbro and Manager of Communications and Public Relations Jennifer Ward proudly accepted two awards in the NRECA Spotlight on Excellence Awards that recognized WEC’s communication efforts.

Education and training for members, elected representatives (directors/trustees), CEOs, and employees help them effectively contribute to the development of their cooperatives. Communication about the nature and benefits of cooperatives, particularly with the general public and opinion leaders, helps boost cooperative understanding.

In 1939 the people of the Wiregrass formed a cooperative to create a better way of life through the power of electricity. For 80 years, Wiregrass Electric Cooperative (WEC) has fulfilled that mission, from first bringing electricity to farmers and families in the 1940s to providing reliable, affordable service today.

As it fulfills its mission, WEC embraces seven cooperative principles. This month’s featured principle is “education, training, and information.” WEC takes great pride in communicating with the membership, because this is your cooperative. Through our monthly magazine, newsletters, website, and social media we can keep all members informed about the cooperative.

We are proud to have recently had our communication program recognized with NRECA Spotlight on Excellence Awards for “best total communication program” and “best feature story.”
