Lower Demand & Save Money

thermostatYour power use matters to all of us in the Wiregrass Electric Cooperative community. By managing your electricity use, especially during peak demand hours, which are 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the summer and 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the winter, you’re not just cutting your bills. You’re also helping reduce the whole co-op’s costs.

You just need to level out your energy load throughout the day and lower your electricity usage during peak hours. Here are some helpful tips:

  • Invest in a programmable thermostat. Set it to cool your home before peak times or heat your home in the winter months. Use a fan to circulate the air when the system is off. This will drastically cut your demand during peak hours without sacrificing your comfort.
  • Install a timer on your water heater. Program it around peak periods for significant reduction in energy demand. You can also set specific times to only heat water when you’re planning to use it.
  • Do laundry in the morning or evening, using cold water when possible. Line-dry clothes outside for even more savings.
  • Switch to LED bulbs. They consume less energy and generate less heat than incandescent ones.
  • Making small changes to your routine can lower demand and reduce your energy bill.

Our co-op hit an all-time peak demand this past December 24, significantly increasing the price we must now pay for wholesale power in 2023. Help us keep costs low by reducing usage during peak periods. Every kilowatt saved during these times is a step towards more affordable electricity for all members.

Remember!Peak times are 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in summer and 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. in winter.
