Youth Minister Inspires Resilience, Character at Wicksburg High

Morrison, youth minister at Bay Springs Baptist Church, shares weekly devotions with the boys and girls basketball teams at Wicksburg High School.

Cliff Morrison, a youth minister at Bay Springs Baptist Church, channels his love for sports into meaningful outreach at Wicksburg High School. Through weekly devotions with athletes and coaches, Morrison merges his passions for faith, sports, and mentorship. His biblical teachings enrich students’ high school experience with lessons and a sense of community that extends far beyond the field or court.

Over the past decade, Morrison’s influence has broadened from one football team to an array of sports and activities, reflecting the depth of his commitment. In talking about his volunteerism, Morrison highlights the mutual benefit of his service: Not only does it aid others, but it also deepens his own faith journey.

“It’s really enjoyable,” he says. “I’m very grateful. I hope that it helps the coaches and the team out, but it really helps my walk with God.”

Morrison’s method has always been to meet a need head-on. “I really felt like this is what God called me to do,” he says.

At the heart of Morrison’s efforts is the message of God’s unconditional love and the promise of hope. He strives to show that beyond the pursuit of athletic excellence lies a deeper, spiritual quest for understanding and belonging.

“No matter what age you are, you experience the difficulties of life. Even amid their struggle, I just want them to know they are all loved and noticed,” he says. This philosophy extends to coaches, too, who Morrison sees as deserving of support and encouragement.

Morrison supports the Wicksburg girls cross-country team during competitions.

Recently, the community showed its appreciation for Morrison’s selfless dedication by naming him a recipient of the Silent Heroes of the Wiregrass Award. The accolade, a partnership between Wiregrass Electric Cooperative and WTVY, honors the contributions of local individuals and organizations.

“Mr. Morrison truly embodies the spirit of service,” says Stevie Sauls, WEC’s vice president of member services and communication. “His work isn’t just about sports — it’s about building resilience and character through God’s teachings. We deeply admire Cliff ’s commitment. He’s a genuine difference-maker and a fitting ambassador for the Silent Heroes of the Wiregrass.”

The recognition was met with modesty. “I’m very humbled. I don’t necessarily think I deserve it,” Morrison says.

However, this humility only highlights why he was chosen: His actions are motivated not by the pursuit of recognition, but by a heartfelt desire to serve and uplift others through faith.
