Wicksburg Elementary’s Leighton Gilmore Wins Annual Christmas Contest

First-place winner, Leighton Gilmore.

Wiregrass Electric Cooperative (WEC) congratulates Leighton Gilmore, a student at Wicksburg Elementary School, for winning WEC’s 13th annual Christmas Card Art Contest.

Gilmore’s drawing depicted a Christmas tree with presents underneath, along with the message “May Your Christmas be Merry and Bright.”

Her drawing is featured on the cover of this month’s Alabama Living, and it will appear on this year’s WEC Christmas card.

“The judges loved Leighton’s drawing, and they loved the creativity she used,” says Jennifer Ward, WEC’s manager of communications and public relations. “We are proud to feature this drawing on our Christmas card.”

Gilmore will receive a $50 gift card to Michaels craft store and a stack of the WEC Christmas cards to give to her family and friends.

Elizabeth Tucker, a student at Webb Elementary, drew the second-place selection. Madelyn Bell, a fifth-grader at Cottonwood Elementary, created the third-place choice. Both Tucker and Bell will receive a $25 gift card to Michaels.

“The Christmas Card Art Contest is one of the highlights of our year at Wiregrass Electric,” Ward says. “When the students’ artwork comes flooding in, we have a great time looking at each drawing and seeing all the wonderful artistic talent we have in the Wiregrass.”

Winners from each participating school were awarded a $10 gift certificate, and all students who entered received a gift from WEC.

Second-place winner, Elizabeth Tucker.
Third-place winner, Madelyn Bell.
